In March 2018, Cascadia Prepared hired its first staff member! Stay tuned for further developments in the staffing department.
Katie Kerekes, Administrative Coordinator
Before moving to the Pacific Wonderland, Katie called home to the just as wonderful Wilmington, North Carolina, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology and enjoyed all the local southern cooking you could imagine. She unearthed her love for disaster work while volunteering in Brooklyn post-Sandy, catapulting her into the disaster response and volunteer management field. Since, she has planned business trips to Nuwakot, Nepal, coordinated volunteers for a week-long film festival staffed solely by said (lovely) folk, and advised the Peruvian government on how to manage an influx of volunteers they received after a series of floods in 2017. Now, Katie is a student at University of Oregon working towards her Master of Nonprofit Management and concurrent Master of Conflict and Dispute Resolution. She also has years of experience working one on one with people with disabilities and has developed an acute sense of patience and excitement in empowering others. In her free time, she attempts to make sure her dog (and herself) get enough sunshine and exercise.
Mary Walston, Administrative Director
Having lived most of her adult life in Eugene, Mary Walston, is nearly a native Oregonian. After graduating from high school in Sioux City, Iowa, Mary packed her bags and headed to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. At the U of O, Mary earned a degree in public administration, with an emphasis in international development. She then enjoyed a long and rewarding career working in a number of public agencies in administrative roles including the State of Oregon, Lane County, and the City of Eugene. Mary retired from her professional career in public administration in 2009, and then worked at United Way of Lane County for several year. In 2009 she was appointed to a position on the Eugene School District 4J Board of Directors and still serves in that capacity. She is an active community volunteer and serves on several boards including the Lane Council of Governments, the River Road Community Organization, and Pacific Cascade Federal Credit Union.
